Spain’s Acciona snaps up Peruvian transmission assets

Spain’s Acciona Concesiones has enlisted Pérez-Llorca in Madrid and Miranda & Amado in Lima to acquire a portfolio of transmission assets from the Peruvian arm of Spanish construction company Abengoa.

Abengoa relied on Philippi Prietocarrizosa Ferrero DU & Uría (Peru) for the divestment.

The deal closed on 5 August for a confidential amount.

Acciona acquired four assets from Abengoa through the deal. That includes Cuzco-based transmission line Abengoa Transmisión Norte 1 and ATIPAQ Transmisora Eléctrica in Lima, while it also bought its power maintenance and operations companies Omega Peru Operación y Mantenimiento and Omega Industrial Perú

Acciona also incorporated all equipment, energy supply contracts and substations related to each asset.

The Spanish construction company plans to acquire a further transmission line from Abengoa, Cuzco-based Concesionaria Transmisora Machupicchu – Quencoro, in a separate deal.

Founded in 2002 and headquartered in Madrid, Acciona specialises in sustainable infrastructure, particularly within the renewables sector. With a presence in over 40 countries worldwide, the company’s generation assets produce some 9,387 megawatts of wind power, 2,953 megawatts of solar power and 868 megawatts of hydroelectric power. In April, the company placed a winning bid for a concession to build and operate the Anillo Vial Periférico ring road in Lima.

Established in 1994, Abengoa’s Peruvian subsidiary is responsible for the operations of over 4,000 kilometres of transmission lines, 60 substations and a portfolio of thermal and hydroelectric power stations.
