As part of LACCA’s latest research into Who represents Latin America’s biggest banks?, we examine which firms proved the most popular with the region’s leading financial institutions in 2024.
In previous years, our research focused on the top 50 banks in the region; however, this year, we have expanded our scope to include the top 100 banks, providing a more comprehensive overview of the banking and legal landscape and the firms that are advising the biggest banks in Latin America. The local office of Cuatrecasas emerged as the leading firm in Colombia, securing the top position for the second year in a row, advising 18 of the region’s top 100 financial institutions. Of Colombia’s 10 banks in the top 100 list, Cuatrecasas provided counsel to eight.
Gómez-Pinzón jumped from fourth place in 2023 to second place in 2024, advising 17 of the region’s banks.
Martínez Quintero Mendoza González Laguado & De La Rosa made its debut appearance on the top 10 list for Colombia. The firm separated from international outfit DLA Piper LLP in 2024.
In one example of Martínez Quintero’s banking expertise, it acted for a group of lenders, including Santander, Bancolombia and Itaú, in a US$650 million in financing for a 4G motorway project owned by Patria Investments and Colpatria. Cuatrecasas (Colombia) was also involved in the deal.
Posse Herrera Ruiz joined Martínez Quintero in third place, also advising 13 of the region’s top 100 banks. They were closely followed by Brigard Urrutia and Philippi Prietocarrizosa Ferrero DU & Uría (Colombia), which came joint fourth with 12 banks on their client list.
