Flight simulator company signs Avianca training JV

Philippi Prietocarrizosa Ferrero DU & Uría (Colombia) has helped Canadian flight simulator manufacturer CAE enter a joint venture with Colombian airliner Avianca for pilot training.

Avianca is thought to have relied on in-house counsel for the deal, which was signed on 13 June. The transaction is worth nearly US$70 million.

The new joint venture will provide exclusive training to Avianca pilots for 15 years. Pilots will get access to flight simulators in Bogotá that cover Airbus  A320 and A330 jets, Airbus’ twin-propeller ATR 72, and the Boeing 787. Four simulators are already in operation. The joint venture is subject to further regulatory approvals, but is expected to be fully operational by the third quarter of 2018.
